What are big fans all about?

High Volume Low Speed (HVLS); a new application of a proven concept.

Nothing feels better on a hot day than a gentle breeze. Moving air breaks up the moisture-saturated boundary layer surrounding the body, accelerating evaporation to produce a cooling effect.

People have been aware of this for thousands of years so fans in all shapes and sizes were invented to move air and make us comfortable. It was logical then, that with the advent of the electric motor, fans would be one of the first things to be mechanized.  High Volume Low Speed Fans as the name implies move large amounts of air but at relatively low speed creating a cooling breeze without turbulence.  They provide a very low cost ventilation alternative when used in large buildings that are simply too expensive to climate control any other way.

MacroAirTM Technologies were the first company in the world to refine the big fan HVLS concept into the industry leading range of big fans we see today.  Other manufacturers such as Big Ass Fans®, Rite Hite® and AirmotionTM Sciences have since developed competing products but only MacroAirTM can lay claim to being the original big fan maker.

FANS DIRECTTM, the Australian and New Zealand Fan Company, has evaluated all of the world's leading HVLS fans and chosen MacroAirTM for their design excellence, performance and price competitiveness. For more information about getting a site assessment and quote for your building follow the links.
